SUMMARY:Making Hospital-Based Innovation Stick
DESCRIPTION:Dr. George Tolomiczenko is the founding Executive Director of the Merkin Institute for Translational Research at Caltech. George is a Canadian who returned to Caltech after graduating forty years earlier with a self-designed degree in bioengineering. His innovations in program development and evaluation began following his doctoral training as a research-oriented clinical psychologist in Boston. They have included designing large projects on housing approaches for homelessness persons with mental illness\, strategies for technology-based regional economic development\, philanthropic funding of research\, partnerships for research talent development and programs linking engineering and medicine.\n\nFor this talk\, he will draw from his portfolio-career in both the US and Canada to offer real-life Aesopian tales rich in lessons on fostering innovation designed to survive the journey from identifying and choosing a need to establishing a sustainable solution.

SUMMARY:Angel Investing\, Advising\, and Early Stage Innovation
DESCRIPTION:The healthcare industry faces numerous challenges\, and HealthTechnology startups aim to address these issues with innovative solutions. Physicians can play a vital role in solving these challenges by providing guidance\, mentorship\, and feedback to companies working on groundbreaking solutions. He was an early physician hire at Dialogue technologies (TSX:CARE and recently acquired by Sunlife).  \nHe has been an investor with Halo Health since 2020 and joined the board and investment committee in 2023.
